Raymond Howard Massey

Raymond Howard Massey, age 78, of St. Ignace, Michigan, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 28, 1941, in St. Ignace to Herman and Lila (Latva) Massey. Ray was a lifelong resident of St. Ignace. He served in the US Army in Germany on the Russian border during the Cold War. He retired from MDOT after many years of bridge maintenance and snowplowing. He also spent time working construction on the Soo Locks, and as a tribal fisherman. Ray enjoyed woodworking, keeping care of his yard, traveling, going to the local casino and annual trips to Las Vegas, and visiting National Parks. He always loved and looked forward to his weekly Thirsty Thursday gatherings with his family, even sticking around for one final get together. Ray is survived by his wife, Rose; his children, Cindy (Paul) Brown of St. Ignace, Robert “Bob” (Tina) Massey of St. Ignace, Sheri (Matt) Oja of St. Ignace, Ronald (Stacy) Massey of Cedarville, Michigan, and Stacy Massey of St. Ignace; grandchildren, Caysey Brown, Nick Brown, Carley Haske, Ashley Bosley, Tyler Oja, Brandon Oja, Cayla Massey, Bree Duncan, Chase Massey, and Bryce Milkey; great grandchildren Jaxon Duncan and Finn Oja; siblings, Jim (Faye) Massey of Arcadia, Florida, Edmund (Phyllis) Massey of St. Ignace, Carol (Ray) Halberg of St. Ignace, Clayton (Maryann) Massey of Saginaw, Michigan, John (Lisa) Massey of St. Ignace, and Katie (Mike) Frosland of St. Ignace; sister-in-law, Judy Massy of St. Ignace; and siblings-in-law, William (Bonnie) Nelson of Rapid River, Michigan, Ronald Nelson of Garden Corners, Michigan, and Ann (Todd) Segerstrom of Isabella, Michigan. Ray is preceded in death by his parents; infant sisters, Suzanne and Linda; brothers, Donald and Michael Massey; sister-in-law, Clarine Nelson; and father and mother-in-law, Wallace and LaVerda Nelson. A celebration of Ray’s life will be held Saturday, January 4, 2020, from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at The Village Inn, 250 North State Street in St. Ignace.
