Raymond E. Savoie

Raymond E. Savoie, age 89, of Sault Ste. Marie passed away Sunday April 3, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his family. Raymond was born May 18, 1921, on the family farm in Dryburg, Michigan, to the late Emile and Cecile (Boncher) Savoie. Raymond enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 at the age of 21. He served in Patton''s Third Army in the European Theater with the 133rd Engineering Battalion. He was discharged in 1945 with the rank of Sergeant. Raymond was the recipient of the following citations; Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters, Medal of Good Conduct and five Battlefield Stars. Raymond married Albertine Desormeaux on May 10, 1952 in Sault Ste. Marie. He was in partnership in a well drilling business. He also worked for Lock City Machine and Marine, Kincheloe Air Force Base where he retired after 22 years of civil service. Raymond was a member of the VFW and St. Joseph''s Catholic Church. Raymond was a very gifted and talented carpenter and handyman, who built a home and cabin for his family. He loved helping family and friends with building and home repair projects. He enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, telling stories, and spending time with family and friends. Surviving Raymond is his loving and caring wife of 59 years, Albertine; one daughter, Jan (Kurt) Kipling of Ishpeming, MI; Three Sons, Gary (Kelly) Savoie; Michael (Jocelyn) Savoie and Ron (Jackie) Savoie all of Sault Ste. Marie. Grandchildren, Melinda (Mike) Long; Ryan Savoie; Brooke (Jason) Rizzo; Sandi (Merle) Vollick; Michelle Savoie; Stephanie Savoie; Patrick Savoie; Andrew Brunetta; Angela Kipling and Nicole Kipling. Great Grandchildren, Avery and Nolan Long; Rayce, Rhett and Ryder Rizzo; and Amollia Dayton. Two Brothers, Lawrence (Audrey) Savoie and John (Charlene) Savoie. One Sister Mildred. Sister-in-law, Margaret Savoie and many nieces and nephews. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers, Albert and Gene and sister Susie. The family will be at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home to receive relatives and friends from 5:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday April 6, 2011 with prayers at 7:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am Thursday April 7, 2011 at St. Joseph''s Catholic Church with Father Pawel Mecwel and Deacon Bill Piche as Celebrants. Interment will be in Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Raymond to the Hospice of the E.U.P. or St. Mary''s Catholic School.
