Born on April 19, 1934, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to parents Charles Pigeon Cushman and Mary Ann Augusta. Richard's journey through life was marked by resilience, creativity, and an unwavering spirit. Richard married young and welcomed his first son in 1954. Balancing family responsibilities with his ambition, he worked diligently, busing tables to support his loved ones while pursuing his education. His hard work paid off earning an engineering degree from Michigan Technological University (MTU). Throughout his diverse career, Richard wore many hats—he founded Noster Industries in 1972, owned a bison farm and became known as an inventor, holding several mechanical patents. His ingenuity led him to design, engineer, and build gearboxes for military hovercrafts, securing significant contracts with the U.S. government. In the early 1990s, he relocated to California, where he built an apartment building in San Diego, owned several restaurants, and even a golf course in LaQuinta. Just over a decade ago, Richard and Kimberlee met, a “young at heart” distinguished Midwest gentleman paired with an “old soul” savvy California real estate professional. Their connection was undeniable, and together they formed a great duo. Richard and Kimberlee embraced life with vigor and adventure. An avid car aficionado, Richard's passion for all things automotive was a prominent aspect of his life. Together with Kimberlee, he relished in car collecting and loved vintage automobiles, They enjoyed countless trips to Las Vegas, where he delighted in shooting craps, sipping Crown Royal XO, and listening to the smooth sounds of Frank Sinatra. Proud of his Italian heritage, Richard often showcased his culinary skills by crafting his famous meatballs, always ready to welcome friends and family with a warm meal and a cocktail. Richard was a thoughtful and kindhearted man, staying true to his strength until the very end, never requiring assistance even from a cane. Kimberlee stood steadfastly by his side with unconditional love, holding his hand through his final moments. The void Richard has left in Kimberlee's heart is immeasurable, he will be profoundly missed by friends and family alike. His spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to have known him. Rest in peace, Richard. Your extraordinary life will forever be celebrated and remembered.
