Minnie GÇ£JeanGÇ¥ Paquet

Minnie "Jean" Paquet, age 89, of Mackinaw City, was called to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 2nd, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born at her parents home in Mackinaw Township on June 5th, 1927, the daughter of Hazen and Irene Schneider. On September 9th, 1946 in Mackinaw City, she married Bill Paquet, who preceded her in death on September 23rd, 2004. Jean, as a young child, grew up on a farm south of Mackinaw City and walked over 2 miles to a one-room school house with her brothers and sisters. She was a devoted and loving: wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to everyone she ever met. Jean had a strong faith-filled relationship with Jesus, and spent time with him each morning with her small prayer books and her cup of tea. Jean loved to laugh and was happiest knowing her family and friends were around her being "well-fed." Jean found enjoyment in simple things such as; flower gardening, playing cribbage, LCR, and different card games with her children and grandchildren. Some of her favorite hobbies were growing roses in her garden, watching and feeding the birds, baking her ever popular banana chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon rolls, "Grandma's Famous Buttermilk Dip," and other special goodies. Jean was also so faithful in remembering to send out cards for every special occasion to all of her family and friends. Jean was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Mackinaw City; serving in many capacities over the years. Jean participated in many groups and clubs including: Mackinaw City Woman's Club, Mackinaw Historical Village, a lifetime member of the Fort Michilimackinac Pageant, a former Red Hat Society Member, and was also involved with the St. Anthony's Council of Catholic Women where she enjoyed sewing prayer blankets and was their "Sunshine Card Lady." Jean is survived by her seven sons Ken (Patti) of Cheboygan, Terry (Jeana) of Traverse City, Randy (Randi) of Midland, Danny (Bev) of Mackinaw City, Ronnie (Katie) of Cadillac, Larry (Lisa) of Mackinaw City, and Barry (Bobbie) of North Carolina, brother-in-law Jeff (Marilyn) Rice of Ohio; along with her four daughters Bridget (Ron) of Gaylord, Donna (Denny) of Mackinaw City, Brenda (Mark) of Illinois, Judy of Caledonia, and Kim Smith of Clinton Township. Jean is also survived by her brothers Arthur Schneider of Kent City, and Norman (Shirley) Schneider of Bliss; sisters Hazel Heister of Lansing and Eileen (Tom) Kukla of Bay City. Jean is also survived by 38 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren who she loved dearly. Jean was preceded in death by her devoted Husband William (Bill) Paquet, daughters Miriam (Rice) Paquet, and Karen Jean Paquet; sisters Nellie Demasi, and Ella Malace. A celebration of Jean's life will begin with a vigil service taking place on Sunday, February 5th, from 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.; reciting of a rosary starting at 5:30 p.m. A Christian burial service for Jean will be held on Monday, February 6th. Visitation at 9:30-10:30 a.m. with mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., all taking place at St Anthonys Catholic Church in Mackinaw City. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in the Spring. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Anthony's Council of Catholic Women or charity of choice.
