Robert "Bob" Elton Hudie

Robert "Bob" Elton Hudie, age 93, of Raber, Michigan, died at his home on Raber Bay, Michigan, on September 3, 2023. He was born on January 17, 1930, in Amadore, Michigan, to Willard and Leota (McCallum) Hudie. Bob served his country in the U.S. Air Force at the end of WWII. He was wounded and received an honorable discharge. On July 3, 1948, he married Maxine Allen, and they brought a daughter, Elaine, into the world. Bob had an incredible work ethic and a real curiosity as to how things worked. In addition to farming and construction, he would get a job, learning all that he could before moving on to another job to do the same. He was known to work multiple jobs at the same time. On September 6, 1958, he married Avona Baxter and built their home in Vassar, Michigan, raising their children, Gregory and Roberta. He worked at Vassar Manufacturing and started Bob's Auto Service which included a salvage yard. He owned his own semi and did over-the-road trucking. He also drove for other companies before retiring from Murphy Motors in 1977. Bob's hobbies and interests were many; from car racing with Foyt in Detroit, Michigan, to flying his own airplane, playing second guitar in a three-person band, to fishing and snowmobiling. He had a Chaparral dealership for a time, won many trophies at mud bogging competitions, enjoying four wheeling as well. Bob loved to learn and was quick to pick up knowledge. He observed wildlife and had a profound appreciation of nature. On one particular fall excursion, with the landscape ablaze in color, he remarked that, "The good LORD has a beautiful paint brush." Bob moved to the Upper Peninsula in 1999 and made his home with Karen Fehner in Raber. It wasn't long before he would take over the helm at her resorts. He was adept at operating any piece of equipment and paved the way for the "Toy Box" to be built. He could be found visiting there with friends on any given day. Bob and Karen were married on July 8, 2022, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Bob was a Disabled American Vet. He belonged to the Free and Accepted Masons of Michigan, Marysville Lodge #498, the American Legion Post #274 of Oscoda, Michigan, La Societe des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux Voiture #669 of Oscoda, Michigan, The Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #4141 of Barton City, Michigan, and the Raber Area Sportsman's Club. Bob is survived by his wife, Karen (Fehner) Hudie; two daughters, Elaine (Gary) Robins of Scipio, Utah, and Roberta (Tracy) Marsh of Vassar, Michigan; grandchildren, Corey (Julie) Clark, Denise (Larry) Spurgin, Joshua (Jessica Gregory) Marsh, Justin (Lisa) Marsh, Gregory Hudie Jr., Shannon Hudie, and Chrystal Hudie; great-grandchildren, Marisa Potts, Natalie Clark, Alexia Clark, Lauren (Dallas) Beck, Austin Spurgin, Kayla (Jordon Waggoner) Marsh, and Nicholas Marsh. He is also survived by his brother, Norman (MaryAnn) Hudie of Chicago, Illinois, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Leota Hudie; son, Gregory Hudie; grandson, Kevin Clark; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leland and Barbara Hudie, Dallas and Helen Hudie; and his stepmother, Ethel Hudie. A Visitation will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM and Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 10:00 AM till Noon at Galer Funeral Homes, in Pickford, MI 49774.
