Roger B. Stack

Roger Brandon Stack, of Barbeau, MI, died on September 11, 2013 at Hospice of the E.U.P. in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, with his former wife and most beloved friend of more than twenty-six years, Cynthia Goetz Stack, by his side. Roger was born in Johnson City, New York on March, 27, 1953. He is survived by his mother: Barbara, whom he affectionately called "Bwana", and step-father: Max Crawford and his aunt: Nancy Lewis all of Kalamazoo, MI. He is also survived by his sister: Colleen (Joe) Wilson of Kentucky and their children: Andrea, Tyler, Chelsea and Gabriel, his brother Gary (Nancy) Stack of Washington State and their daughter: Sierra. He was Uncle Roger to Melissa Goetz Haske, Elizabeth Goetz and Sally Goetz, who loved him dearly, as did Cindi's entire family. Roger was the rare individual who loved getting up and going to work , whether it was cutting brush or performing as instrument man in the surveying field, or, more recently, walking the pier with the guys at the Soo Locks as a line handler with Soo Line Handling Service. Any boss for whom he worked would attest that he was an honest, hard-working and dependable employee. Always reluctant to ask for himself, Roger was the first to extend a helping hand to someone else. He was a true gentleman who still believed in helping ladies into their coats, and opening doors for women or the elderly. Learning from his grand-father, Roger had love and respect for the great outdoors, and for many years was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing and rifle, bow and black powder hunting. He always said that there was nowhere else on earth he would rather live than in the Upper Peninsula. Roger was a voracious reader due to his curious nature and desire to learn. Every Friday night for over twenty years he played cards and darts at the home of his best friend, Tom Bush. His friends will miss him at the table. C.S. Mulder Funeral Home assisted in arrangements, and per his wishes, cremation will take place and there will be no formal services. A memorial barbecue is planned at a later date, where friends can visit and swap stories. Now, that's something he would like.
