Leonard Craig Oliver

Leonard Craig Oliver, 77 of Mackinaw City died on Wednesday, April 20 .Len was born September 10,1938 in Wyandotte,Mi to Cecil and Catherine (Gallaway) Oliver, He met Judy Hein while attending Alpena Community College and they were married on July 23,1960 in Metz, at St.Dominics Catholic Church. He attended Alpena Community College before receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Northern Michigan University. He then went on to receive his Masters Degree in Elementary Education Administration from Central Michigan University. His teaching career started in Cheboygan Elementary School. He taught there for six years before moving to Mackinaw City Public Schools. There he took the position of Principal and 6th grade teacher. After 32 years with the Mackianw School System he retired in 1994. Len had many interests outside education. He found true joy when spending time out at his cabin, hunting, fishing, golfing or riding his 4 wheeler. Len was his true self when he was outdoors. His love for cooking brought many friends and family together for gatherings. His berry pies were sought after. He was preceded in death by his wife Judy. He is survived by his 3 children; Jody (Michael) Hoyman, San Diego,CA; Amy (Bill) Golden, Traverse City; Christopher(Denice) Oliver, Troy,MI; 3 grandchildren, Lauren Golden, Drew and Owen Oliver, one brother, Ron (Elaine) Oliver, Tuscon, AZ; 2 sisters, Lois Hughes, Midland and Kathy Smith, Peck,MI. Also a special friend, Sue Lampi. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 3 from 6 to 8 pm at the St.Anthony's Life Center Hall in Mackinaw City. Mass of Christian Buriial will be on Wednesday, May 4 at 11 am at St.Anthonys Church with Fr. Paul Megge and Sister Chris Herald officiating. Friends may also call 1 hour before services on Wednesday, May 4,.In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be given to the Mackinaw City Lions Club Scholarship Fund, with envelopes available from Dodson Funeral Home, 240 McCann Street, St.Ignace,MI 49781 who assisted the family with arrangements.
