Stephen McGahey

Stephen McGahey November 11, 1956 - March 08, 2017 Stephen John "Goog" McGahey, age 60, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed away early Wednesday morning, March 8, 2017 at the Hospice of the EUP - Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family and dear friends. Stephen was born on November 11, 1956 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Clayton and Marna (Payment) McGahey. He graduated from Sault High School with the class of 1974. He then joined the United States Army and served his country in Germany, Colorado, and Missouri. While in the Army, Steven was a competitive runner and cyclist and won many citations. He was a member of Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians and the American Legion Post #3. Stephen enjoyed playing hockey from Squirts though Soo Jr. Indians, as well as Sault High Hockey. More recently, Stephen spent ten years in Afghanistan rebuilding in the war zone. For the last five years, he has battled frontal lobe dementia. Stephen is survived by his wife: Nisakorn McGahey of Thailand; one son: Kalin McGahey of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; four daughters: Stephanie (Jaylon) Pratt of Rocky Face, GA, Cassie (Kyle) Kittle of Rocky Face, GA, Kelsie McGahey of Des Moines Iowa, and Sunisa McGahey of Thailand; and his precious grandchildren: Harper, Mason, Addi, and Hadley. Stephen is also survived by his parents: Clayton and Marna McGahey of the Sault Ste. Marie, MI; three brothers: Clayton McGahey Jr. of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Randy (Judy) McGahey of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, and Kevin McGahey of Kincheloe, MI; two sisters: Kimberly (Jeff) Cairns of Sault Ste., Marie, and Karla (Mike) McLeod of Kincheloe, MI; Very Special Aunt: Albertina Perry; and friends: Bill Coleman, Patti Allison, Cindy Payment, and Kim Cryderman. Stephen was preceded in death by his brother: Donald McGahey. A gathering will be held from 9:30 until 11:30 AM on Monday, March 13, 2017 at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 noon on that same day at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Michael Chenier as celebrant. Entombment will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Hospice of the EUP.
