Thomas Krause

Thomas "Tom" Albert Krause, age 76, of Barbeau, Michigan passed away Friday evening, January 8, 2021, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Tom was born on August 1, 1944, in Las Vegas, Nevada to the late Albert and Pearl (Thomas) Krause. He served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1965-1969. Tom knew God's grace and the surety of Salvation through Jesus Christ. Tom's father served in the US Airforce so he lived in many places around the country and Japan. Throughout that time his family had always spent wonderful times with extended family in South Dakota, where upon retirement his parents purchased their own farm. Tom remembered fondly his life there with his brother and many cousins and friends. He Graduated from Gary High School, Gary SD in 1962. He married Randy Lois Dunaway on September 9, 1967, in the Sault, graduated from South Dakota State University with a B.S. degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology. He built his home and family with love and thoughtfulness. In his work and his life, he was steadfast in honesty, integrity, and kindness. He was a skilled teacher, hunter, marksman, builder, and golfer. Tom retired as Supervisor of U.S. Customs and Border Protection and began a life of travel and golf. He was a good-natured, kind person that deeply loved and was loved and respected by his family, and extended families, the Thomas, Bell, Krause, Bye, and Addy families, and many friends. You always had a good day when you were with Tom. Tom is survived by his wife: Randy (Dunaway) Krause; sons: Joseph (Angela) Krause of Sumner, MI, Douglas A. Krause of Ithaca, MI, and Gregor M. Krause of Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Grandsons: Justin Bussineau of Toronto Ontario, Jacob Bussineau of Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, Hunter Krause of Sault Ste. Marie MI, Brenden Krause of Grand Rapids MI, and Callum Krause of Sumner MI; and a Great-Grandson: Jacob John Bussineau of Sault Ste. Marie Ontario. Tom is also survived by his brother: Terry (Kathy) Krause of Clear Lake, SD. Their children Tonya (Mark) Kowalki of New Ulm MN., Paul (Laura) Krause of Lakeside AZ., and Pamela Krause of Apache Junction AZ. Sister-in-Law Jane Dunaway of Gaylord MI. Her sons Thomas (Kelly) Hanthorn of Florance OR. and John Hanthorn of Gaylord MI. A committal service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 28, 2021, at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. Donations may be left to Baycliff Health Camp.
