Trudy Virgila Bailey

Trudy Virgila Bailey, of Drummond Island, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024. Trudy was born on January 8th, 1945, to Theil Edgerton and Bessie Virginia Bailey. She is survived by her sisters, Theila Bailey Gagliardi (Phil Perry) and Patricia Gochnour Halthaus, along with her nieces Lisa Jo Gagliardi (Jason Smith), Catherine Halthaus, nephew Terry Holthaus, and grandniece Alexandria Theila Brown and grandnephews Avery Patrick Brown and Jacob Halthaus. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Gochner, and her niece Adele Maire Gagliardi (Antonio San Martin). After completing her education at Michigan State University, Trudy embarked on a journey to Phoenix, Arizona, to stay with her great-uncle and aunt, Brice and Marion Seaman. She resided in Phoenix for 38 years and dedicated herself to teaching 8th grade English, making a profound impact on countless young minds. Trudy came home to Drummond each Christmas and summer break. Despite her fondness for the desert, Trudy's heart always belonged to Drummond Island, her beloved home. Upon her retirement, Trudy made the heartfelt decision to again become a permanent resident of Drummond Island, embracing her return with unwavering enthusiasm. Her social life flourished, and she could often be found enjoying lunch and dinner outings with her multitude of friends, and frequently accompanied by her dear sister, Theila. In recent years, Trudy found immense joy in participating in mahjong and euchre groups. Trudy was renowned for her quick wit, sense of humor, and willingness to lend a helping hand to both friends and family alike. Her absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the expansion of the Drummond Island Library in Trudy’s name. This fund was started in 2021 with the passing of her niece Adele. Trudy had a passion for reading, often devouring a book a day, and would be honored to support the expansion of access to literature in her community. Trudy's memory will forever be cherished, and her legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire all whose lives she touched. A Celebration of Life will take place Thursday, June 13th, at 11:30 AM at the Drummond Island Township Hall, with lunch served at 12:30pm.
