Verna Mildred Windsor

Verna Mildred Windsor, age 96, of Hessel, Michigan, was lifted into God’s waiting arms on April 10, 2017 at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She was born November 9, 1920 in Sterlingville, Michigan to William Kerr and Laura Mae (Campbell) Kerr. Verna lived as a child for a short time in Detroit, Chicago, and Sault Ste. Marie, before living the rest of her life on the millpond in Hessel. She married Ernest Leroy Windsor on September 3, 1946 and they raised their five children in Hessel. In 1987 Ernie died, however, Verna continued to live an active life and together with her buddy Dorothy Nye, they visited Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Florida, and Branson, Missouri. Verna enjoyed life and had a great sense of humor. She was an avid bowler. She liked to make crafts and made baskets and quilts for her children. Verna was an amazing cook and baker and loved to take care of her family. She liked to spend recreation time at the casino and was one of the lucky ones who could win. She liked to garden both vegetables and flowers. She liked to dress up with many of her friends for Halloween. Above all else, she loved to dance. Verna is survived by her sons, Donald R. Windsor of Hessel, David E. Windsor of Hessel, Robert M. Windsor of Westland, Michigan; daughters, Laura Ann (Fred Hofnagle) Campbell, and Kathleen (Jack) Otstot both of Hessel; grandchildren, Amanda, Jesse, Kara, Kim and Jasmine; great-grandchildren, Savannah, Stephan, Shay, Kaden, Seth, and Gage. Along with her husband and parents, Verna was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Chanda Howland; daughter-in-law, Loretta Windsor; and son-in-law, Bill Campbell. Verna was the last surviving member of a family of eleven children, Minetta (Clifford) Robinson, Rita (Don) Prohazka, Robert (Bernice) Kerr, Preston (Elizabeth) (Mary) Kerr, Byrdell (Clinton) Clegg, Ted (Margaret) Kerr, her twin, Vivian (Noel) Waldren, and Mabel (Morril) Roberts. A brother Clifton and a sister Shirley died as small children. A memorial celebration of Verna’s life will be announced later this summer.
