Elda Rita McFarlane

Elda Rita McFarlane, 97 of St.Ignace passed away Monday, November 7 at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital. She was born November 3,1914 in St.Ignace to Charles and Clara (St.Onge) Pemble. She graduated from Ursuline Academy and married Owen McFarlane on August 31,1935 . She owned and operated the Mac Motel from 1958 to 1979, located on Reagon Street in St.Ignace. She is a member of St.Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, St.Ann\'s Altar Society and Sault Tribe Chippewa Indians. She was a very loyal family member of the Pemble famliy, and her husband Owen was a mechanic and owned a gas station many years. She has been a pillar in the community many years and loved by those who knew her., Her husband died in 1979.She has spent the past over 2 years at Cedar Cove Assisted Living in Cedarville. She is survived by a son,Richard and his wife Doris of St.Ignace; a daughter, Marquieta Lubitz of Kalamazoo; grandchildren; Cindy & Bob Stringer; Wm.& Michelle Lubitz; Richard McFarlane Jr.; Tina & Chuck Becker; Charles Lubitz; Tammy Smith; Terri & Jay Allen; David McFarlane; Matthew Lubitz; and Rochelle McFarlane; and 13 great grandchildren Desiree & Brooke Allan; Jagger & Caleb McFarlane ; Bailey Stratton; Zach McFarlane; Sarah Smith; John & Brady McFarlane;Michael Hughes; Ben, Alex, and Denise Lubitz; and 1 great great grandchild Sister in law, Bernice Pemble Bickham.. She was preceeded in death by brothers David, Pemble, Blair Pemble, Roy Pemble,and Guy (Buddy) Pemble; and sisters, Delia Leo and Wanda McGuire, and nephews,, David Pemble ; Bruce Pemble and a niece Bonnie Pemble. Funeral services were Saturday, November 12 at 10 am at St.Ignatius Catholic Church with Fr. Pawel Mecwel and Deacon Tom McClelland officiating. Burial was in St.Ignatius Cemetery next to her husband. Visitation was held on Friday evening from 4 to 7 pm with prayers at 7 pm at Dodson Funeral Home; St.Ignace'who assisted the famlly with arrangements.Pallbearers were Deriree & Brooke Allan; Sarah Smith; Jagger McFarlane; Alex Lubitz; David McFarlane with honorary bearers, Caleb McFarlane, Bailey Stratton and Brady McFarlane.
