Walter Ray Warren

Walter Ray Warren, age 86, of Cedarville, Michigan, died on September 25, 2017, at Cedar Cove Assisted Living in Cedarville. He was born August 22, 1931, in Detroit, Michigan, to Walter R. and Alice (Lipps) Warren. Ray grew up in Traphill, North Carolina. He had an adventurous youth, sneaking out to run moonshine by night and snitching watermelons when in season. He loved to play baseball and joined the U.S. Army just prior to his 17th birthday in 1948. There he also played ball and pitched for the Army Team while serving his time in Italy. Ray eventually moved back to the Detroit area where he met Sara Stuntz Conroy. They married on September 9, 1978, in Farmington Michigan. Ray loved to have something to work on and was an accomplished mechanic. He held a job until his 80th birthday. He loved his wife Sara, the Detroit Tigers and Lions (if they were winning), Nascar Racing, and the game of golf. Ray was a North Carolina country boy at heart and would lend a hand to anyone in need. He accepted Christ as his Savior, February 12, 2016. (Romans 10: 9-10) Ray is survived by his wife, Sara Warren of Farmington and Cedarville, Michigan; sons, Rex (Marie) Conroy of Hartland, Michigan, Bruce Conroy of Canton, Michigan, and Tom (Denise) Conroy of Cedarville, Michigan; daughter, Beth Ann (Anthony) Tashjian of Farmington, Michigan; nephews, Jimmy (Anita) Gentry of Statesville, North Carolina and Bobby Gentry of Roaring River, North Carolina, and niece, Tammy (Scott) Bright of Huntersville, North Carolina; brother, Mack Warren of Yadkinville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Bryan (Jen) Conroy, Scott Conroy, Joel Conroy, Nicole (Mike) Schwartz, Nathan Conroy, Nicholas Conroy, Natalie Conroy, Andy (Kelsey) Conroy, Tracy (Zak) Harris, Michael Tashjian, Julie (Cameron) Cochran, and Melissa Tashjian; and great-grandchildren, June, Beau, Noel, Norah, and Landon. Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Walter R. and Alice (Lipps) Warren, and sister, Juanita (Olen) Gentry. There will be a memorial service and celebration of life event in Cedarville, Michigan next summer with the date to be announced. Interment will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Farmington, Michigan.
