William Jay McDonald

William Jay McDonald, of Cedarville, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on October 5, 2018, at home (Cedar Cove Assisted Living) at the age of 84. He was born, July 7, 1934, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to William Lloyd and Isabelle (Batho) McDonald. Bill grew up in Pickford and graduated from Pickford High School. He married the love of his life Yvonne Izzard May 19, 1956, and Cedarville became their home. He worked for US Steel during the construction of the quarry in Cedarville. He also worked on the Mackinac Bridge construction prior to serving two years in the US Army in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. After returning home, he worked various construction jobs and well drilling until he returned to the Cedarville Quarry where he retired in 1997. Bill was a long time member of First Union Church where he served as an Elder for several years. His faith in Lord was strong. He was a member of the Trojan Booster Club for many years, a charter member of the Les Cheneaux Snowmobile Club and had been an active member of the Les Cheneaux Lions Club. His enjoyments were spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, dancing and attending local sporting events. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and as a caring person who was always ready to offer support and helping hand. He will also be remembered for his great sense of humor. Bill is survived by his wife, Yvonne; son Randy McDonald of Cedarville; daughters, Rhonda (Bernie) Miller of Waterville, Vermont, Shelley (Jeff) Promo of Hessel, Michigan, and Tracy Reichlin of Cedarville; niece, Jodi Izzard; six grandchildren, Nathan (Tristina) Smith, Dylan McDonald, Kevin and Sienna Reichlin, Daryl Miller, and Tracie Hultgren; seven great grandchildren; brother, Gary (Ellie) McDonald; sisters, Sharon (Don) Thompson and Kathy (Steve) Fountain; step sister, Boots Carr; brothers in law, Glen Izzard and Howard Craft; and sister in law, Jackie Smith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and special cousin, Don Sterling. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his baby daughter, Donna Corrine; step mother, Lempi McDonald; sisters, Vera Taylor and Corrine Fountain; half brother Leo Kemp; and dear friend and Uncle Melbourne Williams. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 9, from 1 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. with a Memorial Service following at 3:00 P.M. at the First Union Church in Cedarville with Pastor Jeff Meyers conducting the service.
