Edna Joyce Newell

Edna Joyce Newell, age 94, of Drummond Island, Michigan, died on March 4, 2019, at Cedar Cove in Cedarville, Michigan. She was born March 10, 1924, on Drummond Island to Holly Ludlow Seaman and Hilma Lydia (Korpi) Seaman. Edna lived on Drummond Island most of her life. After graduation from DeTour High School in 1942, she worked as a telephone operator in Pontiac, Michigan. She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Junior “Spaghett” Newell on April 20, 1946, after his return from serving in the Army during World War II. They lived in DeTour for a short time before making their home on Drummond Island and raising their six children. Edna enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, Jeep rides, going on picnics, horses, and being with her family. Edna is survived by five of her children, Holly (Scott) Owen of Drummond Island, Robert (Janice) Newell of Drummond Island, Mary Jacques of Sault Ste. Marie, Danny Newell of Drummond Island, and Jerry (Becky) Newell of Drummond Island; daughter-in-law, Janice E. Newell of DeTour, Michigan; grandchildren, Nicole (Jared) DiClementi, Robert (Vanessa) Newell Jr., Debbie (Jeff) Roberts, Dana (Sean) Woodworth, James (Sherry) Bailey, Maurice (Lisa) Jacques, Marc (Gina) Jacques, Ben (Jodi) Newell, Tim (Kristina) Newell, Daniel (Doshia) Newell, Samara Lee, Natalie (Gordie) Postula, Holly (Bill) DeWitt, Nick Newell, and Garrett Newell; great-grandchildren, Anna, Luke, Emma, Jenna, Cassidy, Brendan, Jameson, Bruce, Sarah, Luke, Andre’ (Emily), Jason, Jill, Allyson, Jake, Natalee, Marlie, Sean, Maxxon, Oliver, Bennett, and Presley; one great-great-grandchild, Jackson; sister-in-law, Peggy I. Seaman of Drummond Island; and several nieces and nephews. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Newell; son, Thomas D. Newell; son-in-law, Edward Jacques; grandson, Andre’ K. Jacques; brother and sister-in-law, Eldon and Melissa Seaman; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Geraldine “Tweet” and Keith Harris; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pat and Doty Newell. A Memorial Gathering will be held on May 4, 2019 from 11:00 A.M to 12:00 Noon at Drummond Island Lighthouse Church on Drummond Island with the Memorial Service to follow at 12:00 Noon. Interment will be in Drummond Island Cemetery on Drummond Island. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Drummond Island Ambulance Corps, P.O.
