Lilith Mary Palo

Lilith Mary Palo, age 95, of Rudyard, Michigan, died at the Ball Hospice House of the EUP in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on October 9, 2022. She was born in St. Ignace, Michigan, on September 11, 1927, to Carl and Eva Isabell (Grondin) Melvin. Lilith grew up in St. Ignace and graduated Salutatorian from LaSalle High School in 1945. She worked as a phone operator in Sault Ste. Marie, before attending college in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She married the love of her life, Howard George Palo, on August 30, 1946, in Indiana. They returned to Rudyard to raise their four children. In 1965, Lilith began working as the secretary/bookkeeper in the administration office for Rudyard Area Schools. She enjoyed and had great respect for her co-workers and the Superintendents and Administrators she worked for and after twenty-two years, she retired from Rudyard Schools. Lilith was a lifetime member of the Michigan Association of Retired Personnel and a proud supporter of the Mollie Kahl Library and the Rudyard Pool. Lilith was a voracious, lifelong reader. Historical fiction was her favorite, but she enjoyed all types. Lilith loved crossword puzzles and knitting. She enjoyed water aerobics with her friends, and even participated into her 90's. Lilith and Howard liked the outdoors and would load up their camper and travel all over the wild, natural areas of Upper Peninsula, Northern Ontario and even Alaska in the summer and fall for sightseeing trips over many years. They also enjoyed long walks in the Hiawatha National Forest and camping in Canada or going moose hunting. Lilith is survived by her sons, Jeff (Eda) Palo of Rudyard, and Eric Palo of Traverse City, Michigan; daughter, Norma Fliearman of Howard City, Michigan; grandchildren, Shannon (Sunny Mewani) of Wisconsin, Mark and Mindy Fliearman of Howard City, Chad and Staci Palo of Rudyard, Kristina Palo of Alanson, Michigan, and Rick and Kelsi Palo of Sault Ste. Marie; great grandchildren, Emily (Palo) Wilson, Zach Hagen, Dax and Van Palo of Sault Ste. Marie, and Jacob Fliearman of Howard City. Lilith is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Palo; daughter, Sheila May of California; grandchild, Donny May; sisters, June Abbott, and Millie Saultner; and son-in-law, Raymond Fliearman. Visitation will be held on October 15, 2022, at Galer Funeral Homes in Pickford, Michigan, from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Burial will follow at North Rudyard Cemetery in Rudyard, Michigan.
