Mary Stella Wahl

Mary Stella (Malkowski) Wahl, age 102, of Goetzville, Michigan, died on Monday, September 19, 2016 in Draper, Utah. She was born on September 8, 1914 to Jan and Victoria (Dumback) Malkowski. Mary was born in a logging camp on The Sand Ridge. She grew up on Swede Road at her family farm. Mary was baptized at, and was a lifelong member of the church she loved, St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Goetzville. On October 14, 1933, she married Carl Wahl. They raised four children on their farm in Stalwart while Carl also worked at U.S. Steel, Cedarville Plant. Mary enjoyed quilting and all types of gardening. Mary loved her family, its history, their farm, and everything about it, especially her animals and chickens. She participated in the surrounding community events like the Stalwart Fair, where she received many blue ribbons for her entries. Mary and Carl liked to spend vacations traveling, after the kids were grown up, and visited many states. Carl died on September 24, 1971. Mary continued to live on their farm and was active in the community. She was very pleased when she received her GED high school diploma. In recent years she spent winters with her daughters in Utah, and Texas. Mary is survived by her sons, Walter Wahl of Lansing, Michigan and Roger (Joan) Wahl of Goetzville; daughters, Judith (Wilburn) Gloor of San Antonio, Texas and Linda (John) Zimmerman of Draper, Utah; seven grandchildren,Cara, Tonya, Wilburn Jr., Justin, Carl Trent, Thomas, and Mary Beth; seven great grandchildren, Olivia, Kaitlyn, Gabriel, Joshua, Matthew Miles, and Gavin; sisters, Dorthy Stec of Stalwart, Michigan and Effie Walker of El Paso, Texas. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Wahl; brothers, Tony, Mike and Frank Malkowski; sisters, Frances Galrowic, Wanda Dutcher, and Cora Fountain. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 26, 2016 at R. Galer Funeral Home in Pickford, Michigan, from 5:30P.M. To 8:00P.M. With Rosary at 7:30P.M. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Goetzville beginning at 11:30 A.M. Father Peter Fosu will be officiant. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Catholic Kostka Church, The Stalwart Fair Board or Memorials of choice.
