Richard "Dick" Hiteshew

Richard "Dick" Hiteshew, of Brimley, MI, passed away May 7, 2013 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Genevieve (Wendling) Hiteshew. Dick graduated from Atherton High School in Flint Michigan. He married Genny on May 26, 1956. Upon retirement from General Motors, Dick and Genny moved to Brimley in 1992. Dick loved the quite, simple life of the UP. Dick is survived by his 4 children: Tina Gage of Brimley, MI; Dennis and Tami Hiteshew of Wilmington, NC; Renee' and Mark Firth of Bethlehem, PA; Lisa and David Eack of Adrian, MI; daughter-in-law Joanie of Flushing, MI. He is also survived by his sister Joanne and her husband Dave Barkman; his mother-in-law Harriet Wendling of Prudenville, MI; and his sister-in-laws Chris and her husband Bill Gibis of Flint, MI; Jeanette Ford of Owosso, MI. Dick is proceeded in death by his son Dean Hiteshew, his son-in-law Dean Gage, and his granddaughter Krystal Gage Stallings. Dick was also known as "Grandpa, Bunk, GGPA, PAPA." He leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was a wonderful grandpa to them all and they enjoyed being able to share their accomplishments with him. Dick loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He logged countless hours in a deer blind, on his boat, and sitting on the deck watching the birds while aiming his bb gun at the pesky squirrels. He loved woodworking and always had new patterns and projects underway. His many handmade items will be cherished by his family and friends. Dick and Genny enjoyed traveling and exploring including a trip to Alaska. They would often take Sunday drives to try a new restaurant or explore a new town. He was a big man that had a heart of a teddy bear. He always had a twinkle in his eye along with a witty comeback or smart remark that showed his true enjoyment of life. Everyone looked up to him and knew they could count on his support. Dick will be missed by many. A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 10th, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Augustine Jacob as celebrant. There will be visitation at the church that same day from 10:30 am until the time of the Mass. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the Arthritis Foundation or Hospice of the EUP.
