Richard L. Edington

Richard LeRoy Edington, age 69, of Pickford, Michigan, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born July 25, 1944 in Lansing, Michigan, to LeRoy Bert and Harriett Lula (Kropf) Edington. Dick grew up in the Morrice/Perry area outside of Lansing. His passion was farming and in 1973 he bought a farm in Pickford and has farmed in the area ever since. He loved raising cattle, riding horses, and trucking livestock for family, friends, neighbors and other customers who quickly became his friends. Dick was definitely a Chevy man and would rib anyone who owned any other kind of truck. He loved westerns and his family is pretty sure he saw every western ever made. Everything Dick did he did for the love of his life, Diane, and his large family whom he cherished. They were the center of his life. He always did what he could for anyone without expecting anything in return. His friends were abundant and he was well known throughout the area. He was certain to run into someone he knew where ever he traveled. Dick is survived by his wife Diane, who he was with for nearly 32 years. They married March 12, 1994. He is also survived by his treasured children, John (Susan) Edington of Pickford, Todd (Debra) Edington of Barbeau, Michigan, Sharon (Marty) LaJoie of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Diane (Joel) Gervais of Pickford, Shannon Mattson of Traverse City, Michigan, Kelly Mattson of Sault Ste. Marie, Brent (Amber) Edington of Pickford, and Nicole (Davis) Rye of Pickford; grandchildren, Derrick, Nicholas, Christian George, Jacob, Nathan, Matthew, Kaitlyn, and Timothy Edington, Kaye VanLuven, Natalie and Tiffany Shaw, Alivia LaJoie, Alex Young-Gervais, Alicia, Scott, and Stephanie Gervais, Makenna Mattson, Ava Stark, Aubrey Roy, Alex and Ricky Wheaton, and Carter Rye; and great grandchildren, Connor, Abbigal, Levi, Elizabeth, and Lillian VanLuven. He is also survived by sisters, Janet Wise of Perry and Betty Raynard of Pickford; and by brother, Harry (Sandy) Edington of Bancroft, Michigan. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and by grandson, Caleb Stark. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 11 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Reamer Galer Funeral Home, 24549 S. M-129 in Pickford. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 12 at 11:00 A.M. at Reamer Galer Funeral Home with visitation starting at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be in Cottle Cemetery in Marquette Township, Michigan. The funeral procession from his farm on Townline Road to the cemetery will be by horse drawn wagon. Marie, MI 49783, which helps transport cancer patients to their treatment appointments.
