Alexis Paul Walsh

Alexis Paul “Lex” Walsh, age 83, passed away June 23, 2018 in Sault Ste. Marie MI. He was born August 3, 1934 in Pennsylvania. The family then moved to Ohio where he and his seven brothers ultimately grew up. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, until he was honorably discharged due to a severe foot injury. He went on to work at Timken Roller Bearing in Canton Ohio as a crane operator and eventually went on to attend barber school in Detroit MI. He married Clarice (Crawford) Walsh in 1961. They moved to the Sault where Lex worked for the Core of Engineers on the Sault Locks. It was in 1966 that the perfect opportunity arrived for him to purchase his own barber business in down town Sault, MI. Where I’m sure he never anticipated spending the next 51 years. Lex would cut hair for many of his customers who were homebound or not able to get to the shop due to health reasons, he also cut hair at the county jail and even made the 9&10 news. On any given day you could always count on a great group of guys and a good laugh, not to mention the occasional dirty joke. There were many stories told, and lifelong friendships formed. He was truly one of a kind and everyone who knew him knows what I mean, he will be greatly missed. Lex is survived by his son, Paul (Karey Bright) Walsh; and daughter, Michelle (Ronald) Malmborg both of the Sault Ste. Marie; brothers, Jack (Andrea) Walsh of Ohio, Raymond (Jane) Walsh of Ohio, David (Cindy) Walsh of Ohio, Bill (Karen) Walsh of Arizona. Bobby (Sharron) Walsh of Tennessee; grandchildren, Mathew Stewart, Paul Walsh Jr., Ryan, Ashlyn, and Dylan Malmborg, and Mason Bright. Great-grandchildren, Aiden, Maximus, and Piper. Also a very special friend Mary Jackman. Lex was proceeded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim and Richard Walsh; and nephew, Benjamin Walsh. A grave side service is planned for September 29th at 11 am at the Stalwart Cemetery in Stalwart MI. A luncheon will follow, thanks to the Stalwart women’s association at the Stalwart Church. R.
