Alice G. Johnson

Alice Genevia Johnson, age 86, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie. She was born October 31, 1928 in Sault Ste. Marie to William Earl Lamoreaux and Mable Lorena (Pope) Lamoreaux. Alice lived her entire life in Sault Ste. Marie. She married Lyle Roy Johnson on December 14, 1946 at the Strongs Presbyterian Church in Strongs, Michigan. In addition to raising her family, Alice worked as a clerk at Woolworth’s for many years, as a cook at the school, and as a housekeeper for area motels. She and Roy lived in Florida during the winter for 30 years and enjoyed their neighborhood of friends there. Alice was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Sault Ste. Marie, and a former member of the Moose Lodge Auxiliary. Alice especially enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She made many afghans and sweaters as gifts for family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing and reading. Alice is survived by one son, Walter L. (Sharon) Johnson of Sault Ste. Marie and Warsaw, Missouri; two daughters, Barbara L. (Claude) Izzard of Milford, Michigan and Zephyrhills, Florida, and Nora G. (Gary) Nurmi of Sault Ste. Marie; grandchildren, Lisa (Greg) Calcut, Daniel (Leeanne) Izzard, Sarah (Daniel) Sullivan, Martha (Wes) Johnson, Andrea (Michael) Litzner, and Adam Nurmi; and great grandchildren, Megan (Tyler), Jennie, Matthew, Daniel, Marie, Garrett, Madelyn, Emmett, Jean-Luc, Victoria, and William. She is also survived by one sister, Delores Gilmartin of Spring Hill, Florida; sisters-in-law, Doris Lamoreaux of Sault Ste. Marie, Ellen Lamoreaux of Sault Ste. Marie, and Arlene Johnson of Dafter, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, to whom she had been married for 66 years when he died on December 22, 2012; and siblings, Melvin Lamoreaux, Bonnie (Orval) Jacobson, Leo Lamoreaux, Clayton Lamoreaux, and infant brother, Guy Lamoreaux. A private service will be held at Donaldson Cemetery in Bruce Township, Michigan in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the E.U.P, 308 W. 12th Avenue, Sault Ste.
