Barbara Ann (Forrest) Campbell

Barbara Ann (Forrest) Campbell passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2015, at Freighter View Assisted Living, at the age of 81. She was the first of 12 children born to Arnold and Myrtle (McKillican) Forrest on February 02, 1934. She married Donald J Campbell on August 30, 1952, and together they had 7 children and raised a grandson as one of their own. Barbara graduated from Loretto High School. In her younger years she was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone, Riverside Grocery Store, and Soo Corner Store. She then worked for 27 years at the United States Post Office as a rural mail carrier, where she never missed a day of work, and retired in 1993. Barbara not only raised her children and worked outside the home, but also had a small hobby farm and very large garden. Mom was very happy tending to her gardens. She canned endlessly only to give most of it away. You would also find her out on her riding lawnmower in the summertime. She loved to be outdoors. She enjoyed coming in after a long day outside and having a cold Bud Light. Mom gave endlessly. She left candy for the kids, along with food and Christmas gifts to the less fortunate on her mail route, yet didn’t like to be acknowledged for her generosity. She gave from the heart not for the recognition. Barbara loved her family and did endless things for and with them. She especially loved having the grandchildren over. You couldn’t do anything wrong at Grandma’s. She decorated the house every holiday for them. She would attend all their events, even of recently you could find her at Sault High watching her granddaughter play volleyball and basketball. Her house was a home to all, temporary or long term. You could talk to her about anything and you would always get an honest response. She had many family gatherings at her home and never did you feel unwelcomed or leave hungry. She also loved having her brothers and sisters gather for reunions, they laughed into the late hours of the evening. Barbara was a very devout Catholic and was a parishioner of Saint Isaac Jogues Church. Survivors include 3 daughters, MaryAnn Cunningham, Karen Doughty and Doreen (Greg) Diepenhorst; 4 sons, Dennis (Peggy) Campbell, Bill (Lynn) Campbell, Rich (Meg) Campbell and Mike (Angie) Campbell. She is also survived by 2 granddaughters, Rachel (Jason Simmons) Campbell and Ann Diepenhorst; 11 grandsons, John (Jennifer)Cunningham, Brian (Audrey) Cunningham, Chris Campbell, Craig (Fran) Campbell, David (Debi) Campbell, Shawn (Lindy) Campbell, Tyler (Alicia Klein) Campbell, Dan (Liz) Campbell, Nick (Olivia Pupel) Campbell, Bobby (Christi) McKerroll and Patrick (Jenny) McKerroll. Barbara also had 10 great granddaughters, Kelsey, Jessie, Adelaide, Mara, Araleah, Gabby, Charlotte, Avery, Kaylynn and MacKenzie; 8 great grandsons, Campbell, Jack, Fred, Keigan, Preston, Aiden, Mason and Truman. She is survived by her 6 sisters: Margaret (Dewey) Baldwin, Linda Peters, Roberta Barfield, Suzanne Schnepp, Lucille Lankford and Marcia (Tom) Merry; 4 brothers: Marshall Forrest, James (Barb) Forrest, Kenneth (Barb) Forrest and Maurice (Carol) Forrest; and sister-in-law: Mary Lemire. She was preceded by her husband of almost 54 years in 2006 Donald J Campbell and the sudden loss of their infant daughter Patricia in 1956. Also preceded by her parents: Arnold and Myrtle; in- laws: Truman and Enid Campbell; a brother Patrick Forrest; sisters-in-law: Dolores and Phyllis Forrest; and brothers-in-law: Gene Barfield and Craig Lankford and a son-in-law Larry Doughty. Visitation will be held Thursday July 16, 2015 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Thursday July 16, 2015 at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home with Brother John Hascall officiating. Burial will take place immediately following services at Oakland Chapel Gardens. Per mom’s wishes, donations can be made to Hospice of Chippewa County or Saint Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in lieu of flowers.
