Donald Carruthers

Donald Gene Carruthers passed away after a three year battle with cancer on October 4, 2018. He was born to Louis William Carruthers and Viola Mae (Dusenbury) Carruthers on February 10, 1948 in Lithopolis, Ohio. He graduated from Carroll High School, Carroll, Ohio. He married Sandra Kay Arnett daughter of John Richard Arnett and Mary Lucille Wilson on March 28,1967. He is survived by his wife Sandy, daughter Dolores Christine Carruthers Lancaster, Ohio son Craig Eugene (Rhonda) Carruthers Raco MI , grandchildren Derek Gene Carruthers, Rachel Kay (NIck) Kibble, Caitlyne Nicole Carruthers, and Rebecca Kay Carruthers, great grandchildren Zachary, Grayson, and Wyatt Kibble and Blake Carruthers , brothers Darrel (Linda) Carruthers St. Clairsville, Ohio and Tom Carruthers Lithopolis, Ohio, brothers-in-laws John Michael (Peggy) Arnett Lancaster, Ohio, Gary Wayne (Cheryl) Arnett Hillsboro,Ohio, Jeffery Lee (Charity) Arnett Lancaster and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents William and Viola Carruthers, brother William H. Carruthers, and sister Judith Carruthers. Donald joined the Ohio Air National Guard 121st Tactical Wing in 1967 and served active duty in Korea during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Guard for 23 years and worked for the Guard as a civil service employee. He was a member of the American Legion Post #80 in Trout Lake. He and his wife Sandy along with son Craig moved to the Upper Peninsula in 1987 and built and operated Northwoods Trails Cabins in Raco, MI. Don also worked part time for Chippewa Motors in Sault Ste. Marie after moving to Michigan. In 2015 he and Sandy sold the cabin business to their son and moved to Trout Lake, MI and became Lakehouse Grandpa and Grandma. Don enjoyed snowmobiling, wood carving, golf, 4 wheeling, fishing, camping, card playing, and family. He was a skilled woodworker, mechanic and all around jack of all trades. He dearly loved his grandchildren and great grand boys . He touched many lives and his life legacy will go on in memories of his generosity to others, artistic talents, and putting others first. In lieu of services, celebrate his life through memories of good times and how he touched your life. In lieu of flowers you may donate to any of the following: your local Hospice, the Cancer Society, or The American Heart Association or to anyone in need. "Ten four Critter signing out!"
