Evelyn Faye (Johnson) O'Neill

Evelyn F. O’Neill of Maple Street Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan Formerly of Morley, Michigan passed away Tuesday March 28, 2017 at Blodgett Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Evelyn was born March 14, 1925 in Goodwell Township, Newaygo County, Michigan the daughter of Richard S. and Neva ( Willson) Johnson. She married her husband of 66 years on December 23, 1944 at Sand Lake, Michigan. Evelyn was instrumental in the formation of the Walt Erickson Public School Library serving the Morley Stanwood area. She served as the librarian for many years retiring in 1987. In 1990 she and her husband Clare moved to Lakeland, Florida where they lived for 16 years. They moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan in 2006. Over the years Evelyn enjoyed bowling, golfing and was an avid knitter. She enjoyed Laker hockey listening to every game on the radio and attending nearly every home game for the past 11 years. She was a member of the Soo Blueliners and the St. Joseph’s Ladies Guild. Evelyn is survived by sons Max and Marcia (Lowe) O’Neill of Naples, Florida and Pat and Barbi O’Neill of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; grandchildren Kim (Bob) Jacobs of Glenview, Illinois, Kristie (Fordyce) Gooder of Naperville, Illinois, Shaun and Stacey O’Neill of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Kathleen O’Neill of Bluffton, South Carolina, Ryan and Caitlin O’Neill of Crystal Lake, Illinois and Maggie (Hamilton) Marx of St. Petersburg, Florida; great grandchildren Madison Jacobs, Griffin Jacobs, Hailey O’Neill, Elizabeth Bradford, Nathan Bradford, Allison Fordyce, Ben Fordyce, Teagen O’Neill and Adeline Marx; brother Richard M. Johnson and two nieces Susan (Johnson) Cline and Cindy Johnson. Evelyn is predeceased by her husband Clare in 2010 and her parents Richard S. and Neva Johnson. Visitation will be held 10:00am until 12 noon Monday April 10, 2017 at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:30pm Monday April 10, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Michael Chenier as Celebrant and Deacon Bill Piche assisting.
