James "Norman" McLeod

James "Norman" McLeod was the youngest of of 10 children born in Bruce Mines, Ontario on October 21st, 1932. Norman moved to Sault Ste Marie when he was 9 years old and resided on Shunk Road with his mother and stepfather. Norman married Alice "Meme" on July 6th, 1959. Norman and Meme had a large family. Norman was a carpenter for the majority of his life and later in life he worked at the casino. He enjoyed working with the public, visiting family and friends. He loved to watch the Red Wings and Detroit Tigers. Later in life his greatest joy was spending time with his family, grandchildren, and dog: Buzzy. In his death, as in his life Norm showed the strength, love, and humor for which he was well known. Norman's last struggle began a week ago at the hospice house. Norman was surrounded by wife Meme, children, and grandchildren when he drew his last breath. If a death may be said to be beautiful, then Norman's was a beautiful peaceful death. Norman used all the strength he possessed to get back to his home and his family. He died in peace, surrounded by love, with his family. Norman is survived by his wife: Alice "Meme" McLeod, whom he married on July 6th 1959, in Brimley Michigan; his 3 sons: James "Sonny" McLeod (Kelly Nolan), Jim Burlew (Liz Burlew), Mark McLeod; 8 daughters: Myra "Dolly" Montague, Diane McLeod Maleport (David Maleport), Debra Macinnis (Daniel Macinnis), Beverly Marble, Kathleen Pianini (Giovanni Pianini), Linda Hammonds (Bobby Hammonds), Loretta McLeod (Michael Nolan), Tenniel McLeod (Francis Kuzmik); and 25 grandchildren: June Ashley, Amy Ashley Gwillim, David Ashley, James Norman McLeod III, Michael McLeod, Damian McLeod, Dre McLeod, Daraka McLeod, Danielle McLeod, Quintin McLeod, Trevor Maleport, Trenton Maleport, Danny Macinnis, Jessica Macinnis, Mickey Marble, Dana Marble, Johnny Pianini, Kassandra Pianini, Travis McLeod, Mara McLeod, Rheanna Mckechnie, Ronald Mckechnie, Raven Mckechnie, Lily Kuzmik, Frankie Kuzmik. Norman is also survived by 13 great-grandkids and 6 great-great grandkids. He was preceded in death by his daughter: Susan McLeod; son: David McLeod; granddaughter: Jessica McLeod; son-in-law: Mick Marble; mother: Susan McLeod Tallion; stepfather: David Tallion; father: George Duncan McLeod; sisters: Agnes Burlew, Mary Frost, Kathleen Kay Connell (Colin Connell); a brother: Raymond McLeod (Elvira McLeod); and his beloved dog Buzzy. A visitation will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 PM and from 5:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday, May 12, 2017 at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church with Brother John Hascall as celebrant. Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens.
