Jack Kriesche

Jack Kriesche, 94 of Pine River Road, Hessel passed away early January 22 at Tendercare in Cheboygan. He was born in Seattle, Washington to Frank and Leah (Frizzell) Kriesche.His father was a world famous glass engraver on Mackinac Island and lived there many years when Jack was in his youth.. He worked in St.Ignace where he met and married Lucille Matson and they were married for 69 years until her death in 2010. He worked for Lazy Bobs and Kolbes fisheries as well as being a fisherman, trapper, and woodsman. He worked on the Mackinac Bridge driving a Redi-mix truck pouring the road deck as a heavy equipment operator. He later owned and operated his own redi-mix business in Sl.Ignace and helped others build businesses in the area. He was a WWll veteran who fought in Africa and in Italy. He received a Bronze Battle Star amoung his many medals.He was in service from December 17,1941 to November 3,1945., and was overseas 2 years and 5 months. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge and a St.Ignace volunteer fireman many years. In his later years he ran a sawmill at his residence at Pine River and was well known for telling a good story and enjoyed a good laugh. He was always known for lending a hand to anyone in need. His idea of a time well spent was watching the Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers. Many who knew him called him "Uncle Jack". He is survived by a son, Harold Kriesche and his wife Sally of St.Ignace; a daughter, Jackie and husband Don McCormick of Garden City. and his son, Michael of St.Ignace. Five grandchildren, Dale Kriesche; Debra Andrews; Dorothy Kate Kriesche; Marc and Mason McAllister. He also has 7 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He has 3 living sisters, Caroline Merchand; Myrtle McDonald and Mary Smothers. He was preceeded in death besides his wife 3 brothers, Gerald and Frank Kriesche and Mike Heckert. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 2 at 11 am at Dodson Funeral Home, St.Ignace. Visitation will be one hour before service time led by Don McCormick. Burial will be in Carp River Cemetery with Military Rites by the St.Ignace American Legion Post.
