John Emil Tominac

Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M July 03, 2014 at Reamer Galer Funeral Home John Emil Tominac, age 84, of Raber, Michigan, died Sunday, June 29, 2014, in Petoskey, Michigan, with his family at his side. He was born January 18, 1930 in Raber Township to Peter and Mildred Tominac. John was a lifelong Raber resident. After graduating from high school, he served in the United States Army in Korea. When he returned to Raber, he met Betty Jean Cryderman and they were married August 27, 1955 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Goetzville. John worked as a farmer and as a heavy equipment operator at the limestone quarry in Cedarville. He was injured in an accident on his farm in 1981 that paralyzed his legs but did little to slow him down. He continued to live a very active life around the farm where he modified his tractor and other equipment so he could drive them and engineered and built a lift so he could get on the equipment. John was an active member of the Raber Amvets. He enjoyed horses and attending horse pulls, and restoring old farm machinery. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren. John is survived by his wife, Betty; son, James (Terry) Tominac of Raber; daughters, Karen (Kevin) Ledy of Pataskala, Ohio, and Marie (Michael) Fierek of Goetzville; grandchildren, Jenny Ledy (Tim) Morgan, Jason Ledy, Johna Ledy (Shawn) Walter, Jessie Tominac, Kyle (Melissa) Tominac, Katie Tominac, Marah Fierek, and Morgan Fierek; and great grandchildren, Dominic Jewell, Marcus Jewell, Lillia Walter, Kevin Walter, Nathan Walter, and Mackenzie Tominac. He is also survived by three sisters, Margaret Frankovich and Dorothy Zwolinski of Goetzville, and Patricia (Tom) Paradiso of Saginaw, Michigan. John was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward (Cassie) Tominac and infant Thomas Tominac; sister, Helen (Tony) Ozanich; and brothers-in-law, Wallace Frankovich and Everett Zwolinski. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 2, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and Thursday, July 3 from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. at Reamer Galer Funeral Home, 24549 S. M-129 in Pickford, Michigan. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, at 10:00 A.M. at Reamer Galer Funeral Home. Burial will be in North Raber Cemetery.
