Keith Robert MacDonald

Keith Robert MacDonald, age 61, of Pickford, Michigan, died on July 12, 2018 in St. Ignace, Michigan. He was born on July 29, 1956 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Robert Wayne and Stella Bernice (Nayback) MacDonald. Keith grew up in Pickford and graduated from Pickford High School with the class of 1974. He began working at the Pickford Meat Company in the summers and in the woods during the winters. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Susie Miller, on July 12, 1975. They made their home in Pickford and raised three children. Keith started and operated his own business, MacDonald Distributing Co. for twenty years, delivering Seyfert’s and later Jay’s potato chips to stores across the Eastern Upper Peninsula. He began working at the Pickford Building Center in 2000, where he was an assistant manager and known as a jack-of-all-trades. Keith was a member of the Pickford Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years and part of the Pickford Sports Boosters, Raber Sportsman’s Club, and St. Mary’s Walleye Club. He was a varsity football coach for 13 years and was instrumental in the construction of the Pickford Athletic Complex. He loved all sports, especially when he was watching his kids and grandkids play. Keith also liked spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, and cutting wood. Keith, with fishing partner Tom Taylor, won the Cabela’s Master Walleye Circuit Tournament in Sault Ste. Marie in August 2017. Above all, Keith loved his family, friends, and treating people well. He was a teacher in his own right, whether he was on the football field, tinkering in the garage, or out on the Munuscong Bay. He was a kind man and lived a life of integrity, qualities he instilled in his children and grandchildren. Keith is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susie MacDonald; children, Randy (Shaunna) MacDonald of Pickford, Stacey (Ron) Miller of Dafter, and Amy (Grahame Murray) MacDonald of Raleigh, North Carolina; grandchildren, Ella, Tessa, Eli, Rena, Liam, Haley, Tommy, and Owen; mother, Bernice MacDonald of Pickford; brothers, Danny MacDonald of Gwinn, Michigan, Dean (Ami) MacDonald of Macon, Georgia, sisters, Kathy (Roger) Jacobson, of Pickford, and Bonnie (Dave) Fox of Easley, South Carolina; mother-in-law, Marion Miller of Pickford; brothers-in-law, Tim (Patsy) Miller of Pickford, Marty (Sherry) Miller of Pickford, Kurt (Brenda) Miller of Fairbanks, Alaska; and sister-in-law, Jan (Mark) Huber of Reedsburg, Wisconsin. Keith is preceded in death by his father, Robert MacDonald; father-in-law, Jim Miller; and nephew, Danny MacDonald Jr. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at R. Galer Funeral Home, in Pickford. The Funeral Service will follow at 5:00 P.M. with Pastor Matthew Lamb officiating.
