Leo Joseph "Joey" Couvier

Leo Joseph Couvier “Joey” was born April 29, 1962 and departed this life when the angels came for him Thursday February 10, 2011.Joey attended Malcolm School and Soo Township Schools and Northern Transitions, Inc. He was an active participant in Michigan Special Olympics, winning many ribbons especially for basketball throws.Joey enjoyed playing basketball and archery, watching the Dukes of Hazard and the Golden Girls, sharing meals with family and friends. He enjoyed going fishing with his father, grocery shopping, playing cards with family and friends and visiting his family and friends, going on outings and for meals. Mostly he loved listening to music, loved to dance and playing a variety of musical instruments and spending time with and going on dog walks with his canine confidante, Peaches.Joey had a good sense of humor. He was quick with a smile, eyes full of wonder…he grasped life with both hands. Each day came to him like a present to unwrap. He lived in the moment. He had a smile and hug for family, friends and strangers and he savored every hug he received. His favorite sayings were “Peace and Quiet” “Today is a happy Day” “Kiss me Baby” and “I Love You”.Joey genuinely cared about others, each day was a present he shared with those who knew him. He had a big heart, determination, courage, hope and great joy. He was a courageous man who never believed in giving up without a fight. He fought courageously and to the end.His was the Gift to look beyond everyone else’s flaws…and love them no matter what…with the grace to accept every moment as a gift.He will be sadly missed by his sisters, Simon Couvier, Deborah Couvier Alexander, Joanne Bulson and his Brother-in-law David Bulson and niece and nephew, Emily and Eric, and all his extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Mary Margaret “Maggie” Swick Couvier, his father Leo Joseph Francis Couvier, His Grandparents Victor and Alice Swick and Jelas and Leona Couvier. His Brother-in-law George Alexander and his dog Peaches.Visitation will be held 2:00pm until 4:00pm and 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Sunday February 13, 2011 at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home, with services at 7:30pm. Visitation will also be held on Monday February 14, 2011 from 10:00am until 11:00am at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home followed by committal services at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. Memorials to Michigan Special Olympics would be appreciated.
