Leo Frederick Ygeal

Leo Frederick Ygeal, Sr., 69, of Goetzville, Michigan, died April 27, 2016, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Leo was born October 27, 1946, in Sault Ste. Marie, to John Raymond and Sophia Dorothy (Dozbush) Ygeal. Leo grew up in Goetzville, and attended Leach Country School and then Raber Elementary School. He attended high school in Pickford and graduated in 1965. After high school he attended Michigan Technological University in Sault Ste. Marie. Following college Leo went to work for Michigan Limestone in Cedarville, Michigan. Leo attended the New Horizons Church of the Nazarene in Pickford. He was a member of the Polish National Alliance. Leo also belonged to the EUP Antique Association. Leo loved teaching his children and grandchildren his love of the woods. He has spent his time fishing and hunting in Raber with his beloved family. He was proud of his Polish heritage and spent his life teaching his kids about life, heritage and family. Leo loved teaching the kids to drive and enjoyed long rides on sandridge with family. His grandchildren were the joy of his life. Leo is survived by his wife Elizabeth; three sons, Carl Ygeal of Pickford, Leo Ygeal, Jr., of Goetzville, and Frank (Hollie Currie) Ygeal, also of Goetzville; one daughter, Shannon (Joe) Lawlor of Rudyard, Michigan; six grandchildren, Danielle, Nick, Paige, Chloe, Pete, and Sophia; father-in-law, George Strickland; sisters-in-law, Shelley (Frank) Sayer and Laura (Clary) Walker; and brother-in-law Corey (Lori) Strickland. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Rachel; sister, Constance Ygeal; and brother, Andrew Ygeal. Memorials may be directed to the New Horizons Church of the Nazarene, 401 N. M-129, P.O. Box 156, Pickford, MI 49774, or to War Memorial Hospital Oncology Department Project, 500 Osborn Blvd., Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783. Services will be held at R. Galer Funeral Home at 24549 S. M-129, Pickford, Michigan, beginning with visitation on Sunday, May 1, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., funeral services will be on Monday, May 2, at 11:00 a.m. also at R. Galer Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church Cemetery in Goetzville, Michigan, immediately following the funeral service.
