Marilyn Jean TenEyck

Marilyn Jean TenEyck, age 72, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed away Friday morning, June 14, 2013 at Hospice of EUP - Hospice House. Marilyn was born on February 6, 1941 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to the late Charles and Stella (Miller) Mawhinney. She was a graduate of Sault High School class of 1959. She continued her eduction at Muskegon School of Business. She married John TenEyck at Niagara Falls, New York in 1961. While working for Boeing she and her husband would move from Raco to New York to Alabama and then to Cape Canaveral, Florida. Then in 1972, she moved home and began in to work for Coke-a-Cola. She then owned and operated the Riverside Party Store in the Sault. Marilyn was busy with the First United Presbyterian Church as a Sunday School Teacher, Assistance Treasure, Deacon, and worked many Bizarres. Outside of church she enjoyed her role as president of the bowling team. In her spare time she became a member of the War Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, working many jobs from the gift shop, relay for life, and flee market. Her greatest love was taking care of her family. She was always busy with the PTA, leader in Campfire Girls, and homemaking. She also worked her gardens for years when the children were young. Marilyn is survived by her children: Deborah (Ronald) Houck of Quarryville, PA, Laurie Lewis of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, and Jonathan (Jaclyn) TenEyck of Roxboro, NC; three grandchildren: Charlie, Dane, Gabriel; and two great grandchildren: Gracie and Aiden. She is also survived by many good friends and neighbors. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Stella Mawhinney, her birth mother: Kathryn Sertich, and step father Emil Sertich whom she found in 1980 and became very close; her husband: John TenEyck in 1992, her fiance: Larry Clement in 2000, one son-in-law Bill Lewis and her beloved friend and companion her dog: Thor. A funeral will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home with her son, Jonathan TenEyck officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be at Donaldson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Hospice of the EUP.
