Marlene Ann Griffin

Marlene Ann Griffin, age 80, of Cedarville, Michigan, went to join her husband in heaven on October 12, 2018 at the Ball Hospice House in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She was born on January 2, 1938 in Sault Ste. Marie, to Clark and Annie (Stevenson) Allan. Marlene grew up in Cedarville and graduated from Cedarville High School. She met Paul Griffin and they married on September 29, 1957. They made their home and started their family in the Les Cheneaux Area. As a housewife primarily, Marlene worked part-time at Ang-gio’s, Cedar Pantry, and Maritime Historical Museum, where she met some wonderful friends along the way. After retirement, Marlene and Paul would escape the cold winters and travel to Tarpon Springs, Florida. While in Florida, they enjoyed spending time with Paul’s twin sister Pauline and her husband Ron Nordquist along with the many lifetime friends they met. After Paul’s death in 2005, Marlene moved back to Cedarville full time to her “cute little cottage” where she would enjoy her morning “Noon” coffee on her front porch. In the last two years, Marlene was resided at the Avery Square in Sault Ste. Marie where she met many new friends and loved their social gatherings. Marlene was a member of the First Union Church in Cedarville, Michigan. Marlene was a strong determined women and fought a long tough battle with cancer. She always lived with an “open door policy” and everyone was always welcome. A lot of fond memories were made in her home by many Marlene loved socializing, spending time with her family, snowmobiling, refinishing furniture, walking, making crafts, going to the casino, and shopping at every thrift store and garage sale to find that special treasure. She could always make something out of nothing. Marlene is survived by her children, Paul (Dawn) Griffin of Cedarville, Allan Griffin of Cedarville, and Laurie (Louie) Mazzuca of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; grandchildren, Angela Griffin, Christine Griffin, Jenni Griffin, Kara (Will) Griffin, Garret Griffin, Derek Griffin, Elissa Griffin, Mitchell Mazzuca, and Mackenzie Mazzuca; great-grandchildren, Griffin, Elaena, Nora, Meeah, Evann, and Brooklyn; sister, Laura (Robert) Sherlund of Cedarville; brother, Fred Allan of Dearborn, Michigan; and sister-in-law, Pauline Nordquist of Cedarville. Marlene is further survived by many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Marlene is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Griffin Sr.; parents, Clark and Annie Allan; father and mother-in-law, Patrick and Mildred Griffin. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at First Union Church in Cedarville. The Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 A.M. Rob Preston will be officiating. The family would like to thank Dr. Smith and Dr. Jensen and their staff at St. Ignace Oncology Center; Dr. Mackie and staff; the Ball Hospice House and the wonderful staff and volunteers; the Chippewa County Health Department nurses. Also, a very special thank you to her brother-in-law, Robert Sherlund for all his generosity and love he showed towards our mother. Thank you to all the wonderful people that prayed for Marlene and supported her during her battle against cancer.
