Ruth B. Visnaw

Ruth B. Visnaw, 66 of Pte LaBarbe Road, St.Ignace passed away at home following an 11 month bout with cancer. She was born in Petoskey on August 12,1948 to James J. and Dorothy "Sis" (Bentgen) Brown. She is one of 11 children born to the household. She graduated from LaSalle High School in the class of 1966 and completed 2 years of college and several banking schools. She was a Mortgage Loan Officer at 1st National Bank for many years.Ruthie was a very loving and friendly person, and could put together a dinner for 35 people in a very short time, and did so many times. She was a Campionshp Golfer, winning tournaments at the St.Ignace Golf and Country Club many times. She had 2 businesses on Mackinac Island, the Sleeping Turtle and the Wharf,, and operated them for over 10 years She was a very active member of the St.Ignace United Methodist Church, and held many offices, donaiting her time graciously. She also taight Sunday School and had a perfect attendence in sunday school for many years. Ruthie will be sorely missed, by her family and many, many friends. She retired from the bank in the fall of 2013. She married Joe Visnaw on October 14,1972 and he survives; a son, Joe Joe and his wife Kari of St.Ignace; 2 grandchildren, Trevor and Avery; her siblings, Prentiss Brown lll "Giz:; James (Geri) Brown, Bobby (Krista) Brown; Paul (Cindy) Brown; Andy (Lora) Brown; Jane Perry; Susan Pierson; Sally (John) Herbon; Barbara Brown; all of St.Ignace and Caroline "Lina" ( Curtis:) Cheeseman, Northville; Uncles, and Aunts Prentiss M. Brown Jr; Paul (Meg) Brown; Bruce Bentgen; Jack and Barb Bentgen; Bruce and Barb Laing; and many nieces and nephews. and cousins. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Jim and Sis Brown. and her Aunt Margaret "Peg" Brown.; aunts and uncles, Ruth and Forest Evashevski; Patricia Watson; Hugh and Mariana Rudolph; and her grandparents, Senator Prentiss and Marion Brown; and Capt Hilliard and Lucille Bentgen;and aunt Anne and Bill Bentgen. Friends may call at the St. Ignace United Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 4 from 10 am until 1 pm when services will be held with Pastor Susie Hierholzer officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery . Those wishing to remember Ruthie may do so by givng to the United Methodist Church with envelopes available from Dodson Funeral Home, who assisted with arrangements.
