Wilfred Arthur Libby

Wilfred Arthur Libby, age 85, of Pickford, Michigan died Thursday, January 15, 2009 at his home. He was born May 4, 1923 in Keldon, Michigan to Arthur and Moloza (Castagne) Libby. Wilfred grew up in Keldon. On September 7, 1942, he married LuElla Jane Ruperd in Findlay, Ohio. Because of a shooting accident at age 19, he could not serve as a soldier and instead supported the military movement in World War II by working on Army tanks at the Buick factory in Flint. Most of Wilfred's years were spent with a tool in his hands, thus earning him the nickname of “Mr. Fix-It”. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. Wilfred will be truly missed by family and friends. He leaves us with many fond memories and a peace knowing he is with our Lord. Wilfred has been a member of the Pickford Lions Club since 1980, serving as Lion Tamer for many of those years. He attended the Pickford United Methodist Church. Wilfred enjoyed fishing, hunting, card and board games, puzzles, pool, whistling, and repairing anything and everything. He loved spending time with his family. Wilfred is survived by his wife of 66 years, LuElla; four daughters, Linda (Tom) Burger of Wilbur, Washington, Donna Floyd of Sequim, Washington, Barbara (Mark) Schwab of Pickford, and Lisa (Frank) Sims of Pickford; one son, Alfred (Kathy) Libby of Milan, Michigan; ninteen grandchildren, Timothy (Katherine) Bodi, Penny (David) Castro, Jeffery (Cheryl) Bodi, Vonda Marsland, Todd (Marie) Burger, Troy (Molly) Burger, Nola (Jerry) Brundgie, Willie Floyd, Karen (Duane) Baker, Paris Libby, Dewayne Floyd, Shawn Floyd, Lawney (Shellie Patrick) Libby, Jeremy Libby, Michael (Danielle) Smith, Joshua Schwab, Rebecca (Patrick) Kline, Jessey Sims, and Caleb Sims; great grandchildren, Ashley Castro, Matthew Castro, Zachary Bodi, Zachary Brown, Katelyn Brown, Krystin Bodi, Thomas Finseth, Rachelle Finseth, Leah Marsland, Ryan Haskins, Anthony Burger, Timothy Burger, Brandi (Waylon) Sullivan, Bradley Newman, Courtney (Johnnie) Freatis, Caihley Baker, Ashley Floyd, Brittany Floyd, Katelyn Floyd, Chelsea Floyd, Derrick Libby, Natasha Libby, Madison Libby, Rayman, Christian Libby, Samantha Libby, Jessica Burton, Laci Smith, Ellie Smith, and Emma Smith; and great great grandchildren, Rachelle, Kelsey and Danny Newman, and Raelynn and Malinda Sullivan. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Lawrence (Georgina) Libby of Keldon, Henry Libby of Florida, Gene (Jeannie) Libby of New Baltimore, Michigan, Alice Fortin of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Georgina “Menon” Libby of Keldon, and Albert “Vic” (Gisele) Libby of Keldon. Wilfred was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Francis Libby; granddaughter, Libby Jo Sims; and great granddaughter, Malinda Newman. Services will be held Sunday, January 18 at Reamer Galer Funeral Home, 24549 S. M-129, Pickford, Michigan. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. with the funeral service to be held at 4:00 p.m. Reverends Amos Wittemyer and Paul Gruenberg will conduct the service.
