William Dale Lamoreaux

William Dale “Bill” Lamoreaux, age 68, of Hessel, Michigan, died Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at home. He was born July 27, 1948, in Hessel, to Elmer Elsworth Lamoreaux and Lucy Josephine (Mongene) Lamoreaux. Bill grew up in Hessel where he attended elementary school at the Hessel Schoolhouse. Then he attended Cedarville High School where he enjoyed football but also participated in all sports and graduated with the Class of 1966. In the fall of 1966, he began his service in the United State Army. He was stationed in Vietnam where he received three purple hearts for his duty in combat. Following his discharge in October 1969, Bill returned to Hessel. He married Margaret Jean Locsey on February 20, 1970 in Cedarville. After working at the Mackinac County Sheriff Department and at Kincheloe Air Force Base for a few years, Bill worked at the Limestone Quarry in Cedarville for 30 years before retiring. In his spare time, he worked as a handyman and carpenter for people needing jobs done around their homes. Bill was a Life Member of the VFW Post in Hessel and later in Brimley, and a member of the National Rifle Association. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid gun collector. Not one to sit still, he was always working on a project. Bill is survived by his wife, Margaret Lamoreaux; children, Christine (Gary) Baier of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, James (Heather) Lamoreaux of Kincheloe, Michigan, and Billie Jo (Ray) Orsborne of Hessel; grandchildren, Lisa (Tyler) Brown, Aimee Baier, Jay Baier, James (Taylor) Harrison, Narek (Shay) Harrison, Andrew Harrison, Desiarae Lamoreaux, Hayden Huyck, Kara (Joe) Miller, Dylan Orsborne, and Garrett Orsborne; and great grandchildren, Paige, Addie, and Nicholas. He is also survived by his siblings, Jane (Ivan) LaComb of Warren, Michigan, Elmer (Nancy) Lamoreaux of Hessel, Shirley Johnidus of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Andrew “Bud” (Molly) Mathews of Hessel, and Connie (Andy) Stevenson of Stalwart, Michigan; sister-in-law, Joyce Lamoreaux of Utica, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Ellen Nye Mathews Lamoreaux; siblings, Annie Howard, Vern Lamoreaux, Marjorie Fisher, and Beatrice Harrison. Services will be held Saturday, July 15, at R. Galer Funeral Home, 24549 S. M-129, in Pickford, Michigan. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. followed by the funeral service at 4:00 P.M. Interment will be at Edgewood Cedar Cemetery in Cedarville at a later date.
